This season has become a special one for our golf course. The team of greenkeepers carried out extensive work to ensure that each round was held on perfectly prepared surfaces. We share the key results and innovations of the 2025 season.
Spring: a quick start to the season
In order to be in perfect shape by summer, we started preparing the field in early spring:
- the greens were covered with a special material, which made it possible to speed up the awakening of the grass;
- switched to manual cutting of greens to achieve a smoother surface;
- updated the fertilizer program;
- additional agrotechnical operations have been implemented.
The result? The greens entered the season steadily and efficiently, with an initial velocity of 8.0–9.0 ft, which allowed important work to begin in early summer.
Summer: deep work with the root system and the quality of the coating
Scarification and sanding:
We have carried out deep scarification: we have removed excess organic matter, improved the rolling and "reception" of the ball. The maximum speed of the greens in the season reached 10.5 ft. This is definitely one of the best indicators in recent years.
Hall corring with thin fingers (aerator tubes):
We used this technology on the greens for the first time in the summer.
She provided:
- access of oxygen, moisture and nutrients to the roots;
- fast restoration of turf without sowing;
- improvement of the general condition of the grass.
The herbage recovered in just three weeks, an excellent indicator thanks to the team's operational work.
Fairways:
We continued to scarify the fairways, and improvements are especially noticeable in the second nine, where last year's seeding has already produced a pronounced result.
Autumn: preparing for winter and the coming season
In order for the field to comfortably survive the winter and come out of the off-season as strong as possible, we:
- conducted a second hole corring on the greens;
- performed aeration of the aprockets and tee boxes, followed by sanding.
These operations allow you to remove the felt layer, improve drainage, and in spring, ensure better moisture absorption and oxygen access to the roots.
Preparing for the season 2026
Work does not stop for a single day! Already in November, we tested new tracks for carts and carts on the 5th and 17th holes.
The plans for the next season are large-scale:
- installation of an additional drainage system on the second nine - more than 2500 m;
- installation of new tracks for carts and trolleys - more than 1000 m to reduce the load on the grass;
- improvement of the quality of the native due to the control of weeds.
Season results
Management always sets the task to bring the field to the highest possible level in terms of quality. This year, we managed to return to the docklike methods of field care - more meticulous, sometimes manual work, as there were more people in the service and the team gained experience. As a result, all the work was completed on time and has already resulted in a noticeable improvement in the quality of the playing field. The team of greenkeepers continues to develop the infrastructure and maintain standards that match the level of GORKY Golf & Resort.
